79¢ Well Spent

December 23, 2013 — Leave a comment

I try and avoid thrift shops now because well, I just don’t need anything, like at all. I need nothing. But then sometimes I go and I buy stuff because you know, self-control issues. BUT it was 79¢ so that’s basically car change and shouldn’t count (right??). P1120941 I noticed it because I was attracted to the honeycomb pattern. At first I had no idea what it was. Then I noticed it had little legs. P1120943 My friend and I were both confused by what it was until she figured out that it was an old microwave tray. First of all, gross. Second of all, who has a microwave big enough that they have space/need two levels for microwaving?? But I totally bought it not for it’s intended purpose but for a much cooler one (womp womp), or at least a prettier one. Enter gold spray paint.

P1120945 There was still plenty left after I sprayed my Buddha lamp gold a few weeks ago so I used that. Spray painting in the winter is always a challenge. This was during a snowstorm so I did it on the front porch which inevitable led to gold spray paint on unwanted surfaces, but what’s a girl to do?

P1130013 P1130016 Ta-da! It’s a gold microwave tray that has no purpose…yet. It isn’t staying on the dining room table with that random crap on it (I mostly did that to show the scale), but I’ll find a place for it. I’m actually thinking it would be good on my desk at work. So there is my new 79¢ tray.

Have you ever bought anything super random at a thrift shop? I think this is definitely the oddest thing I’ve bought (followed closely by a bowling pin).
